October 24, 2003 a fire starts in San Diego's eastern county.  By Sunday morning the firestorm spread out of control moving through San Diego county, with no hopes of stopping it.  When it was all over; 383,269 acres were burned,2,454 homes destroyed, 15 civilian deaths, 1 firefighter death, 4 civilian injured and 125 firefighters injured.  The utility impact from this fire resulted in; over 110,000 customers without power, over 1,000 crew personnel involved in the restoration effort, over 1,700 poles down, 300 miles of wire down and 17 transmission lines needing repairs.

In a period of 3 weeks all but 30 or so customers were restored.  Now comes the process of restoring all the many branch lines that are needed for the burned out areas to rebuild.
